Through the Hanley Sustainability Institute, the University’s sustainability efforts are being extended campus-wide and into this community. Our distinctive, highly integrated approach prepares students to meet the growing demand for sustainability skills in the workplace. Leveraging existing programs, degrees and courses, such as the Environmental Biology and Geology degrees, the master’s degree in Renewable and Clean Energy, and an undergraduate minor in Sustainability, Energy and Environment (SEE), the Institute is making enormous strides to become a leader in sustainability education.
Despite the availability of technical solutions, over a billion people are still without any form of electricity and 3 billion people still cook over open fires.
This project emphasizes practical power: renewable, locally-sourced, sustainable energy solutions which lift people out of poverty.

The Sustainable Living Project is committed to sustainable energy because we know from our work on the ground that renewable energy sources are a powerful solution to many of the world’s greatest challenges, such as building sustainable communities, ending poverty, increasing access to healthcare, and more.
I Am Clean Energy is focused around a greener source of energy, one that will benefit everybody and leave a smaller footprint for generations to come.
We believe that patterns and types of energy production and consumption can change over to increased efficiency while maintaining and enhancing the quality of life for all people of the middle east. Moving toward a green economy will decrease per capita consumption of oil, increase oil exports, and decrease pollutants in the air, water, and soil. The environment will be cleaner, the food supply will be healthier for all, and the people of the middle east will be happier.
The ETHOS (Engineers in Technical Humanitarian Opportunities of Service-Learning) Center seeks to provide service-learning experiences through technical immersions, student activities, research and hands-on projects. Through these experiences, students have gained perspectives on how engineering and technology are influenced by the world. Participating students have been able to use their engineering skills for humanitarian purposes, serving others through practical engineering knowledge. Our alumni learn about the world, different cultures and themselves.
Proprietors Anita and Dale Lewis have created a farm dedicated to peace and sustainability. Located in Bellbrook, Ohio, the farm has many animals and is being created as a center for green technology and agriculture. In 2014, the Farm was the location of the First Caring Citizens’ Congress of Wilmington, Ohio, charter application to affiliate with the Empathy Surplus Project was accepted December 2, 2014. A charter ceremony took place at Roaring Brook Farm on the eve of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
